Spring Cleaning With Alexandra Baker

By Simone Stancil

As we enter Q2 of the year, we can all relate to that sense of urgency to completely revamp our environment. Whether we feel compelled to go through our wardrobes, rearrange our workspace or simply deep clean our homes, spring cleaning can be a beneficial project for our overall well-being and a surefire way to set us up for success.

Home Shopping Network (HSN) guest host Alexandra Baker shared her thoughts with Notedd on why it’s important to declutter and reorganize.

“To me, a tidy home, a tidy mind,” the award-winning personality shared. “My philosophy is that your home should really sparkle like a diamond. Your home is as cherished as a diamond whether it’s 700 square feet or 7000 square feet.”

Regarding keeping things simple, Baker, also dubbed as everyone’s “HOMEBFF,” offered one specific and crucial piece of advice.

“Purge,” she said. “The number one thing to do is select what you love and purge the rest. It makes it so much easier to organize.”

Additionally, the Home With Alexandra founder proposed keeping a high-rotation wardrobe of staple pieces such as vintage items or only a few pairs of garments like pants, sheets, bras, etc. to help avoid decision fatigue and make your closet easier to navigate.

When it’s time to deep clean, Baker revealed her go-to household cleaning devices and products to give your space a sparkling, chemical-free finish.

“Baking soda is your friend,” she says. The patented inventor and designer recommends baking soda or baking soda mixed with white vinegar as an all-purpose cleaning agent for tedious jobs like removing soap scum from glass doors or removing stains and yellowing from clothes.

She also advocated tossing household items that are no longer functional, like brooms and mops.

“You must use a floor steamer,” she emphasized. “You can not have a home or a place or anything without a floor steamer. You no longer should have a broom, and you no longer should have a mop.”

Ultimately, Baker continued to endorse three pillars of her brand — chic. simple. reimagined. Giving our space a hard reset can benefit us in a variety of ways and we owe it to our future self to keep our homes clean. So take the opportunity this spring to not only elevate your home, but your mind too!
